Sulfur City
Rotorua is absolutely great. It feels like walking on a big volcano here: there's steam coming out of everywhere in the park and sulfur's in the air almost 24/7. I went to a Maori village (not a real one - a local Plymouth Plantation if you will) and it was fabulous. I spent half a day there, the weather was gorgeous. I got to see geysers, bubbling mud pools, thermal springs, a "cooking pool" (a crater with boiling water in it), bubbling lakes, etc... I also got to see Maori traditions: wood carving, weaving, welcoming ceremonies, performances (songs, dances, hakas...) The whole deal. Awesome. Then I went in the woods for an afternoon hike; I caught the sunset then went back to town for a glorious night. I had beer coupons my hosts gave me (something wrong with booking so they made me move and compensated me with free beer...) I met that dude at the pub who was a bass player. So we chatted and drink a lot of beer... I didn't spend a single dollar though (between my coupons and that guy who kept paying his rounds...) Jeez, I even danced again... Something's definitely wrong with me.
